Repairing a Leaky Flat Roof

Do you have a flat roof that is leaking and in need of roofing repair?  Here is how you can quickly repair your leaky flat roof to reduce water damage to your home or structure.

It is important to know that if your roof is still relatively new, the roofing company who installed it may be obligated to repair it.  If this is not the case, and you do not want to contact a contractor, you can do the job yourself.

When you are ready, start by sweeping the flat roof clean.  Cut out the damaged portion of the roof with a utility knife and remove all of the bad sections.  Make certain that you cut the section out in one piece so that you can use it as a template to cut out a piece of new roofing.

When you cut out all of the flat roof replacement shingles you need, apply roofing cement around the hole you have created.  Use a putty knife to get the cement under all edges.  Then put cement on the piece of shingle and press it into the hole you cut in your flat roof.

Use roofing nails to tack down the shingle.  Apply a larger patch of shingle over the flat roof patch you just installed and use cement around the edges to help it seal.

When this is finished, you have successfully repaired your leaky flat roof.
