Once again spring is in the air and it’s time to enjoy some beautiful weather and perfect temperatures! Now that all the leaves have fallen and all the ice has melted, our homes are in desperate need of some TLC before hotter days make their way into town. When we normally think of spring cleaning, we envision removing all the dusty cobwebs from our homes and fully scrubbing the inside. What often slips our minds is that the exterior of our homes need some spring cleaning too!
This winter the roofs of Central California worked hard to protect our interiors from ice, and wind. Now is the opportune time to give a spring inspection of your roof before spring rains begin to take their toll! If you have a ladder available and want to inspect your roof yourself, below are a few of the main areas to look for. However, it’s always best to call a licensed professional to do the inspection for you or answer any concerns you may have about your roof!
Things to pay attention to:
- Rust on flashing
- Moss or any type of growth on shingles
- Cracks in caulking around the flashing
- Shingles that show signs of buckling or excessive wear and tear
- Areas around the chimney showing signs of wearing
- Debris and branches built up on roof deck
- Chimney and vents clogged
- Build up in gutters
Gutters will need the most attention after the winter months. It is crucial to remove all debris accumulated in the gutters to ensure they will work properly during spring showers! To avoid having to have your gutters cleaned out next year, consider adding gutter guards to prevent excess build up.
Taking care of these few maintenance areas will be worth the while by increasing your home and roofs longevity!
